A delegation from universities in Guilin, China, successfully conducted a study visit to Malaysia from 9 to 15 December, with academic engagements hosted by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The visit aimed to deepen mutual understanding and explore practical pathways for academic collaboration, talent cultivation, and industry engagement between Chinese and Malaysian higher education institutions.

During the visit, the delegation undertook structured academic programmes at both UPM and USM, including visits to faculties, teaching facilities, and advanced laboratory infrastructures. These sessions provided the delegation with first-hand exposure to Malaysia’s strengths in teaching organisation, research platforms, and applied innovation, particularly in areas aligned with science, engineering, and interdisciplinary studies.

In addition to campus-based activities, the delegation also conducted visits to local enterprises, gaining insights into Malaysia’s industry ecosystem, university–industry collaboration models, and mechanisms for translating research outcomes into practical applications. These engagements contributed to a more comprehensive understanding of how higher education institutions in Malaysia integrate academic development with industrial needs.

A key highlight of the visit was the delegation’s participation in USM’s International Cultural Day, where they engaged with students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds. The event provided a valuable platform for cross-cultural exchange and people-to-people connectivity, reinforcing the role of international campuses in fostering global perspectives and mutual respect.

The study visit laid a solid foundation for future cooperation between Guilin universities and Malaysian partners, particularly in student mobility, joint research, faculty exchange, and industry-linked education initiatives. Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining communication and advancing concrete collaborative projects in the next phase.
